Family Science Night Supported by the Children's Science Center

Family Science Night is Coming to our School
The Children’s Science Center is bringing a FREE Family Science Night Program to LCDS. Family Science Night offers a variety of engaging, hands-on science activities such as: Castle Geometry: Math in 3D!, Are you My Baby?: Animal Adaptations, How Slow Can You Go?: Defying Gravity, Fingerprint Analysis: Forensic Science and Shrink Me!: Taking Metric Measurements and many more. These experiments are specially designed to help encourage students to take interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, as well as to encourage students to develop curiosity in everyday life situations.
Young children are natural scientists, rationally making observations, testing hypotheses, analyzing data and reaching conclusions. Unfortunately, many students lose interest in science as they grow up.

Volunteers are needed from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. to set up, assist students with activities and clean up. We hope to get at least one volunteer per class and even some of our amazing teacher to help with the activities. We hope to see you all there!

What is the Children’s Science Center?
The Children’s Science Center is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to instill a love of learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in all children by providing unique opportunities to explore, create and be inspired. They have been hosting Family Science Nights across Northern Virginia for several years. In June 2015, they opened the Children’s Science Center Lab at Fair Oaks Mall. The Lab is Northern Virginia’s first interactive museum where children, families and school groups can explore STEM concepts through fun, engaging hands-on exhibits, activities and programs. In addition to four experience zones with changing exhibits and activities, the Lab includes a flex-space for camps, classes, workshops, birthday parties, and private parties.
In addition to the Lab and community programs, the Center is working to fulfill the vision of a full-scale, world-class children’s science museum to be located at the Kincora development in Dulles, VA.
The Children’s Science Center is trying to spread the word about the need for this hands-on children’s science museum in our community. We have a great program for spreading the word – “Imagine Their Future Tours.” It is a one-hour program for people to see their plans firsthand.
